Govt to Produce Paddy Rice for Farmers Ogun From Toba Suleiman in Abeokuta E ffective from next farming season, Ogun State Govern-ment is to produce at least 14,000 metric tonnes of paddy rice for farmers across the 20 local governments of the state. Commissioner for Agricul-ture, Prince Bamidele Obadina, made this disclosure during a meeting with rice farmers at the Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGA-DEP) headquarters, Abeokuta. To achieve this according to Obadina, government would facilitate the procurement of farm inputs like fertilisers, herbicide and insecticide for onward delivery to participating farmers. He said the initial harvest from the Ofada Veettee Rice Company seed multiplication Farm at Mokoloki, Obafemi -Owode Local Government area of the state would be distributed to farmers to produce rice seed. He noted that plans were in the pipeline by the state Government to start exporting rice to increase its internally generated revenue. He was hopeful that with this development, the state would soon occupy the number one position in rice production in the country. The commissioner therefore expressed the need for farmers to join hands with the state government to achieve this goal. Speaking earlier, chairman, Rice Growers Association, Pastor Bode Adenekan, expressed gratitude to government for giving farmers new lease of life through its welfare programme.
