Senate Commended on Kwande Crisis Report
Benue

Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor, Mr. Tahav Agerzua, has commended the Senate for its mature handling of the Kwande crisis committee report.

Agerzua, in a statement, said the best approaches to conflict resolution are dialogue, consultation and negotiation, rather than playing to the gallery by seeking media attention.

He said he was happy that the Senate resisted pressure from the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP), led by Senator Daniel Saror, who allegedly sought to mislead the Senate in taking decisions that will suit his whims and caprices.

According to Agerzua, explanation by the Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, that the Senate cannot deliberate on a matter, which is before the Judiciary, is most appropriate.

He advised the ANPP and Saror, to present their case before the Justice Kazeem Alogba Commission of Inquiry probing political disturbances in Kwande/Ukum, which is currently holding public sittings in Makurdi.

He refuted media reports credited to Saror, that fighting was still going on in Kwande, saying the Senator has not visited the area since the committee left Benue early June, and does not know what is happening there, adding that Governor George Akume, who has been out of the country in the last two weeks could not have influenced the Senate as alleged by Saror.

He said he personally visited Adikpo, headquarters of Kwande Council last week and witnessed the return of peace to the area with no report of fighting in any part.

"The Rehabilitation and Resettlement Committee set up by the state government has also commenced work, complementing the distribution of five trucks of fertilizer donated by Akume to affected farmers in the area free of charge," he said.
