Akide Rates Falcons High Athens 2004 Super Falcons ace striker Mercy Akide has described Athens Olympics team as the team for the future saying the sky remained their limit. She said: "We have a fantastic team now and this team has a future. I can say that if given the necessary support and encouragement, we will go places. We have the potentials and most of the players are very young and can last in the team in some years to come. That is our major advantage and I will appreciate if we can capitalise on that and build a more solid team for the future." She said given their performance against world champions, Germany and other teams at the games, the team, she said regained her confidence level and was ready to face any challenge henceforth. "We have demystified some of the best teams in the world at this games and I can assure you that we will do more in the future. You saw what happened in our match against the Germans, but for the gang up by the officials, we would have beaten them." Akide, however, advised the authorities to invest in the team by sending them on training tours and engaging them with other countries in international friendly matches, which she said would enhance their cohesion and form. "Government should not look at how much they are spending in sending us to camp or engaging some teams for us in friendly matches but should look more at the long term effects."
