Oyedeji Quits D'Tigers

After months of face off with the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Nigeria's basketball export, Olumide Oyedeji, has decided to call it a day with the national team.
Oyedeji, who presently plays for Chinese first division side Beijing Docks, told THISDAYSports yesterday that his decision to call it quits with D'Tigers has to do with the poor administration of the game by NBBF.
"I think I have had enough with the national team and the only area I will want to be relevant is to continue to support the game.
"I have nothing against NBBF and the Sports ministry but from their activities in the recent past , I don't think they have the interest nor welfare of the athletes at heart.
"I tried to help but they put me in the middle of their in-house politicking and am too young for such a thing. When I started spending my money to encourage young talents to American schools, some of them were not happy because they think am out to spoil their business since they make fortune from the transfer," he explained.
The player's problem with NBBF reached it's crest last year in Cairo during the African team Championship when he complained of neglect by federation officials, who called his bluff.
In a related development, the annual Oyedeji Basketball Clinic will commence from August 30th-september 4th.
Oyedeji said that the five-day programme will hold at the indoor sports hall of the University of Lagos Sports Centre, Akoka and over 500 kids are expected to take part in the clinic Mr Robb Mills from USA will act as the camp director and will be assisted by Ganiyu Otenigbagbe and George Benefori an instructor in American school to assist.
"This is a testimony that will continue to support the game that brought me to limelight because there are several talents out there that need to be encouraged to play the game at the highest level," he said.
