Lagos State Govt to Boost Coconut Production By Opeoluwa Fujamade Lagos State government has stated its commitment towards the growth of coconut production of agriculture in the state for both local and international industrial use. The state Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Co-operatives, Honourable Kaoli Olusanya at a one-day investors' forum on "coconut oil production, utilisation and marketing in Nigeria" held in Lagos stated that coconut being both an industrial and edible crop could be a major source of revenue to both government and private sector. According to him, various coconut processing equipment have been distributed to coconut growers and processors in the state and also the introduction of vocational training in modern techniques of coconut utilisation to farmers. "Agriculture is still the leading real sector of the economy. Apart from supplying the food requirement of a nation, it also supplies raw materials to agro-industry. The development of agriculture catalyses the process of economic growth through increased production, marketing, processing and the development of small scale agro-business," he said. He therefore called on the private sector to partake in the promotion and creation of a solid food and agro-industry.
