IBADAN —ANOTHER group of Alliance for Democracy (AD) Chairmen in South-West yesterday rose from an emergency meeting in Ibadan, throwing their weight behind the Akure declaration of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, recognizing senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa as the authentic National Chairman of the crisis-ridden party.
At the end of the meeting held at the Oyo State Secretariat of AD, Adamasingba Ibadan, the Ogun State Chairman of the Party, Chief Duro Aikulola said that south west states chairmen are in total support of Akure declaration of Afenifere that no fresh convention should be held in the party.
The meeting attended by scores of the AD from four states from Yoruba land had in attendance Chief Ayo Akinyemi, Lagos state; Chief Duro Aikulola, Ogun State; Prince Dotun Oyelade, Oyo State; Chief Bola Sobowale, Deputy National Women leader; Chief Abioye Oyetunji, Osun State; Chief Gbenga Kaka, former Ogun State Deputy Governor; Dr. Gbola Adetunji, former Health Commissioner under Lam Adesina’s government; Chief Pekum Awobona, Ogun State; Alhaji Babatunde Busari, Mr. Yemi Yusuff, Assistant National Secretary of AD and others.
Chief Aikulola who read the nine-point communique issued at the end of the meeting stated that the party would resist all attempt by a notable money bag to hijack the party for his own selfish ambition and resolved never to allow such as the party belongs to everybody.
Below is the details of the communique read to newsmen after the meeting.
*Total support for the emergence of Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa as the National Chairman of Alliance for Democracy as declared by Afenifere leaders at its meeting held at Akure on Auguist 17, 2004.
*Total support for the stand of Afenifere at the Akure meeting against any fresh convention which could further polarise the party. Also, the caucus resolved to cooperate with all the party members to build a more virile and united party.
*The meeting resolved that the convention held at Abuja remains the only authentic and duly constituted convention of the party as stated in the party’s constitution.
*The meeting also noted that not less than 28 states chairmen as well as the state congress committee chairmen attended the Abuja convention.
*The meeting noted the activities of a notable moneybag to hijack the party for his own selfish ambition and resolved never to allow such as the party belongs to all of us.
*The caucus resolved to ignore the call by some people calling for fresh national convention. The caucus resolved to work together with other progressives throughout the country to reposition our great party and to reclaim its lost glory in future elections.
*Finally, the caucus noted the perseverance of our members and further encouraged them to continue to support the party to attain enviable position as the only alternative party to PDP.
