Globacom to
commission gateway switches in 5 continents

National Operator (SNO), Globacom, is to commission its international gateway
switches in five continents.
The SNO has also interconnected
547 operators in 152 countries for delivery of Short Messaging Service (SMS) on
the network.
This development would further
reposition Nigeria as an international telephone hub, as Globacom switches are
set for commissioning in Singapore and Hong Kong, both in Asia, the United Arab
Emirate in the Middle East and the Australian continent.
These were in addition to the
ones already in Africa, Europe and America.
Disclosing this in Lagos
yesterday, the Chief Operating Officer of Glo Gateway, Mr. Ashok Israni, told
newsmen that on completion of the commissioning, Globacom would be strategically
positioned to offer major player’s services to the global telecom industry.
Mr. Israni who was joined at the
media chat by Executive Directors of Mr. Patrick Adenuga and Ms. Bella Adenuga,
and Mr. Rakesh, said the commissioning process began last weekend with the
launch of its switch in the United Kingdom (UK).
This, he said, would soon be
followed by the launch of its switches in Paris, France; Frankfurt, Germany and
the United States of America (USA).
According to him, Globacom, had
also interconnected with leading international carriers in the world like
Belgacom of Belgium, Link Africa and KPN Eurovoice of Netherlands, France
Telecom, IDT Global and Cable and Wireless of UK, iBasis of United States of
America, T-Systems of Germany and Teleglobe of Canada, among others.
In addition, Globacom has
announced the deal it has with 547 international operators for the SMS
destinations in 152 countries. This, he said, offers subscribers on the network
opportunity to exchange SMS service on these networks.
Israni stated that Globacom has access to the
Nigerian SAT-3 submarine cable, which connects the nation to the world for voice
and high-speed data transmission.
