  • Globacom to commission gateway switches in 5 continents

Globacom to commission gateway switches in 5 continents

    Remmy Nweke

Second National Operator (SNO), Globacom, is to commission its international gateway switches in five continents.

The SNO has also interconnected 547 operators in 152 countries for delivery of Short Messaging Service (SMS) on the network.

This development would further reposition Nigeria as an international telephone hub, as Globacom switches are set for commissioning in Singapore and Hong Kong, both in Asia, the United Arab Emirate in the Middle East and the Australian continent.

These were in addition to the ones already in Africa, Europe and America.

Disclosing this in Lagos yesterday, the Chief Operating Officer of Glo Gateway, Mr. Ashok Israni, told newsmen that on completion of the commissioning, Globacom would be strategically positioned to offer major player’s services to the global telecom industry.

Mr. Israni who was joined at the media chat by Executive Directors of Mr. Patrick Adenuga and Ms. Bella Adenuga, and Mr. Rakesh, said the commissioning process began last weekend with the launch of its switch in the United Kingdom (UK).

This, he said, would soon be followed by the launch of its switches in Paris, France; Frankfurt, Germany and the United States of America (USA).

According to him, Globacom, had also interconnected with leading international carriers in the world like Belgacom of Belgium, Link Africa and KPN Eurovoice of Netherlands, France Telecom, IDT Global and Cable and Wireless of UK, iBasis of United States of America, T-Systems of Germany and Teleglobe of Canada, among others.

In addition, Globacom has announced the deal it has with 547 international operators for the SMS destinations in 152 countries. This, he said, offers subscribers on the network opportunity to exchange SMS service on these networks.

Israni stated that Globacom has access to the Nigerian SAT-3 submarine cable, which connects the nation to the world for voice and high-speed data transmission.
