Masari defends anti-press bill The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, has denied attempts by the law-makers to gag the press, even as he declared that the Bill will soon be passed into law. In an interview with newsmen in Minna, the Speaker said the speculations that the members were trying to gag the press began when he was far away in South Africa. According to him, if there was anything to say about the relationship of the law-makers and the press, it has been cordial. Speaker Masari further disclosed that all activities of the House had been sufficiently covered to the satisfaction of the law-makers and its entire leadership, saying there was no area to pick-holes in the meantime. He said the law-makers will continue to safe-guard the interest, of the press stating that in the interest of the house and the public, the press Bill will soon be signed into law after going through the necessary procedures. The House will accelerate hearing on the Bill and when the hearing begins, the public will be invited to make input when the time comes”, he said.   TO NEXT NEWS PAGE...
