A veteran journalist and Managing Director of The Sun newspapers, Mr Mike Awoyinfa, is among the 30 persons that bagged the 2004 edition of the Osun State Honours Award. This was disclosed Monday by the Head of Service and Chairman of the Awards Committee, Mr Segun Akinwusi at a press conference marking the 13th anniversary of the creation of the state. Akinwusi said the state government decided to recognise excellence and called for nominations, adding only 30 could make the award out of 156 names received from members of the public and corporate organisations. He explained that the exercise would be yearly throughout the tenure of the administration and beyond as a way of encouraging good performance among the citizenry. Among other recipients of the awards, which would be presented on August 26, are a 14-year-old girl, who has written four books some of which are being used in public schools in the country. Pioneer Registrar, National Board for Technical and Business Education (NABTEB), Professor Olu Aina and a female Traffic Warden, Mrs O.
