Dariye in State House, Parleys with Obasanjo From Josephine Lohor in Abuja Suspended governor of Plateau State, Chief Joshua Chibi Dariye, yesterday met briefly with President Olusegun Obasanjo at the State House, Abuja. Dariye, who arrived for the meeting in the evening and was accompanied by a plain cloth security detail, headed straight, on arrival, to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Major-General Abdullahi Mohammed. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Mrs. Oluremi Oyo, who confirmed the suspended governor's visit to the president, noted that it was part of finding a lasting solution to the crisis in Plateau State. She added that "yes, he (Dariye) was here to see Mr. President in furtherance of the peace process in Plateau State." Answering questions on whether Dariye would be called back as governor after the emergency rule must have been lifted, Oyo stated that "I cannot answer that question. The President was asked the same question during the media chat and his answer was plain and simple. What the president is concerned is that there would be peace and stability, security and progress all over the country." Dariye was suspended on May 18 following the imposition of a state of emergency in Plateau State as a result of the persistent series of communal and religious crisis.
