NEPAD Is Producing Results, Says Obasanjo President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday praised the increasing cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa, saying it is an indication that the New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD) is yielding positive results. The President, however, said to be worthwhile, such a relationship must create value and be mutually beneficial to both countries. Obasanjo, who spoke at the presentation of the newly published laws of the federation in Abuja, hailed the timely execution of the publication by Lexis Nexis Butterworths of South Africa and their Nigerian partner, Odade Investments Ltd. Obasanjo observed that the thrust of his administration's economic policy is sustainability, adding that "to do otherwise is to live on borrowed times," since "many of the old ways are not sustainable." He stressed that the public-private sector partnership being promoted by his administration is aimed at promoting enterprise and efficiency, reducing corruption and releasing government funds for infrastructure and social welfare development. Managing Director, Lexis Nexis Butterworths, Mr. Billy Last, had earlier praised the vision behind the public-private partnership and NEPAD, which was co-sponsored by Obasanjo and South African President, Thabo Mbeki.
