'Withdraw Suit Against Oil Dichotomy Act' From Jaiyeola Andrews in Asaba Delta State House of Assembly yesterday passed a resolution calling on the 22 governors who recently instituted a legal action seeking to abrogate the Oil Dichotomy Act, to withdraw the suit in the interest of national unity and cohesion. Moving the motion on the floor of the Assembly, the Deputy Speaker, Pius Akpor Eherido said, "most of the money used in developing Lagos and Abuja, were gotten from this area, but what do the area have to show for a resource that is here, it is a matter that will continue to anger our people". He stressed that when the the Development Commission (NDDC) was put in place, and the 13 per cent derivation principle was implemented, the people of the region jubilated, adding that it was also a jubilation galore when the oil dichotomy bill was passed by the National Assembly, and signed into law by President Olusegun Obasanjo. He said with the suit, the joy that followed its signing into law was at the verge of being truncated. "I am not interested in the figures or what they may achieve in the process, what I am interested in is national unity and cohesion. At the end of the day, we are the people that have suffered so much for what we have given to Nigeria and our people complain that inspite of what they have given to Nigeria, thy have not received a commensurate reward," Ewh-erido said. He noted that with the development, the 22 governors have come to ambush the hope of the Niger Delta region, adding that the move is dangerous to national unity and cohesion. Besides appealing to the conscience of the governors, he said the multiplier effect of the suit will be incalculable.
