Oshiomhole Lauds Kalu's Directive to Unions Abia President of Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, thanked Abia for his directives to motor unions in his state to merge with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). In a letter to the governor signed by Oshiomhole on behalf of the congress, he said that the decision was informed by great political prudence and decisiveness and thanked Kalu for the positive and proactive decision which, according to him is worthy of emulation by other governors. Comrade Oshiomhole said the decision reflects a deep appreciation of the rationale of structuring trade unions and employers associations on industrial basis for the mutual convenience of all players, including government. The NLC President noted that although industrial unionism and consensus of players in industrial relations have been the objective of the Trade Union Act, it has often been subverted for selfish reasons in the motor transport industry and assured the governor that his vision in facilitating the streamlining will be reciprocated by the leadership and membership of the union at all levels through a cooperative and positive approach to unionism.
