From Dipo Okunmuyide in Ado-Ekiti
Counsel to the judicial panel of enquiry probing the past administration in Ekiti State, Malam Yusuf Alli (SAN) has recommended the dismissal of five Senior Staff of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES) for alleged complicity in mismanagement of funds at the Radio and Television Stations.
The affected staff are Mr Olu Akerele who is the Storekeeper at the station, Mr Charles Afolabi who is the Commercial Officer in Lagos office, Mr Segun Lawrence who is the Director of Commercial and Mr Martins Ayoola who is the Director of Finance and Administration and Mr Abiodun Olaofe.
Making the recommendation in his submission to the panel on Monday, Alli said the indicted staff could not adequately defend the allegations against them at the tribunal.
According to the counsel, the affected staff defrauded the station of large sum which they allegedly diverted for their private use.
Four other workers were equally recommended for demotion for allegedly diverting the station's money.
Those affected are Laolu Omosilade, Olusola Oyewole, Jide Ogunluyi and Remi Oguntuase who are all editorial staff of the station.
In his submission, Alli also recommended that the former Chairman of the Road Maintenance and Construction Company (ROMACO), Chief Ade Abolarin owned by Ondo and Ekiti State governments should be barred from holding public office in the next 10 years following his indictment by the panel.
Abolarin was also asked to refund the sum of N2 million to the coffers of the state government which he allegedly misappropriated from the company's account.
According to the panel, the money was expended on gifts to the former chairman, purchase of DSTV, hand sets and unretired imprest which were discovered through audit queries by the auditors of the state government.
