...Names Omoragbon First Nigerian CEO
The Board of Directors of Aiico Insurance Plc, the leading life insurer in the country has appointed Mr. Henry Omoragbon as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company in acting capacity. He becomes by this appointment, the first Nigerian to rise to the position of Chief Executive Officer in the underwriting firm formerly known as American International Insurrance Company.
Omoragbon's appointment came shortly after the death of his predecessor in office, Mr. Francis Joseph Hagerty, two months ago at his Pennsylvania, United States of America home.
Omoragbon joined Aiico Insurance Plc in 1989 as a General Manager/Chief Financial Officer, a position he occupied until his last year elevation to the position of Executive Director (Finance). He has since assumed duties in this capacity.
Proir to this, he worked with KPMG, an Audit firm as Audit Senior between April 1987 and August 1989. He was an Associate Lecturer in the University of Lagos between 1988 and 1991.
The 50 years old Executive Director hails from Benin City, in Edo State. He had his preliminary education in the country after which he bagged a he his primary education at Christ Church School, Uwani in Enugu State.
Omoragbon attended Texas College, Tyler in Texas, USA and later transferred to Angelo State University in San Angelo also in Texas where he bagged a BBA degree in Accounting and a Masters in Business Administration degree from the same university.
He is a Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), CPA member of the Texas State Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also holds an ACA certificate and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The Executive Director (Finance) is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM) as well as a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN). He is also a member of the Money Market Association of Nigeria (MMAN).
Omoragbon has attended many local and international senior management and professional courses including AIG Leadership Challenge Course in New York, USA and Insurance/ Reinsurance Courses, Swiss Reinsurance, South Africa.
He has also presented many research papers at different professional and educational fora and he is recipient of 1981/82 Award of Merit by the National Deans' List of Academic Achievements, in USA.
He is also a Director of Hallmark Paper Company, Nigerian Insurance Facultative ClearingHouse, Globe Reinsurance Company Limited as well as TRW Stockbrokers Ltd and Presco Plc.
The Executive Director is a Member of the Money Market Association of Nigeria (MMAN) and Treasurer, Nigeria Employers' Association of Banks, Insurance and Allied Institutions, (NEABIAI).
Presently, he is the Chairman of the Accounting Technical Committee of Nigerian Insurers' Association (NIA). Omoragbon is married with children.
