Dariye parleys with Obasanjo on Plateau peace process

The embattled suspended Governor of Plateau State,
ChiefJoshua Dariye, visited President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday, at the
StateHouse, Abuja. It was his first formal visit since his suspension from
officeabout three months ago, though Daily Independent has learnt he has
been seeingObasanjo often.
According to Mrs. Remi Oyo, the President�sspokesperson,
Dariye was at the State House to discuss with Obasanjo on ways for achieve peace inPlateau State, now
under a state of emergency.
Barring any
changeof events, the emergency rule is expected to elapse in another three
monthswith Dariye returning to the Government House in Rayfield, Jos.
Dariye, arrived the State House at about 4.30 pm and
headedstraight to the Office of the Chief of Staff to the
President,Major-General Abdullahi
Mohammed.
Dressed in a black suit, a white shirt without a tie
andblack shoe to match he was accompanied by a plain clothe security detail, in
aprivate Mercedes Benz executive saloon car.
Speaking to State House Correspondents on the visit,
theSenior Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo on Media, Mrs.
Oyo,said Dariye met with President Obasanjo where issues of the peace process
inthe state was discussed.
�He washere to
see Mr. President in furtherance of the peace process in PlateauState� she
said, but declined to comment on whether the suspendedgovernor would return to
his job at the end of the emergency rule, Oyo said:� I can�t answer that
question. The president was asked the samequestion during the media chat and
his answer was plain and simple.
� We have just reached the mid term, and he hopes thathe
will be back again. What the president is concerned is that there will bepeace
and stability, security and progress all over the country,� the
spokespersonquoted the president as saying at the media chat.
