FG to raise panel on Hajj

President Olusegun Obasanjo received the report of Year
2004Hajj operations on Tuesday in Abuja and promised to set up a committee to
look intoways of ensuring successful conduct of future hajj operations.
Obasanjoreceived the report from the Amirul Hajj and Speaker
of the House ofRepresentatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari. The Sultan of Sokoto,
Alhaji MuhammaduMaccido, would head the committee.
Apart from looking into the problem of eliminating allmanner
of inconveniences faced by Nigerian pilgrims; the Maccido committeewould assist
in the setting up of a permanent body that would handle Hajjoperations.
He said there was need for government to provide
facilitiesfor �our deserving citizens to perform their religious obligations
incomfort and convenience,� stating that the committee�s report wouldhelp in
this regard.
Praising Masari and members of his committee for what
hedescribed as an excellent work and smooth conduct of this year�s
hajjoperation, which was adjudged to be the best so far by Nigeria,
Obasanjoaccepted a recommendation by the committee that more carriers be
involved inthe airlift of pilgrims, to enhance competition among the carriers
and ensureearly conclusion of the exercise.
�We hope that when we get that report, we would beable to
take care of some of the problems,� he said.
