No fewer than 30
senior managers in the employment of by the Odua Investment Company Limited
have been relieved of their appointments with the conglomerate.
One of the
terminations of appointment letter dated August 23 and made available to
Daily Independent said the services of the affected managers were no longer
required with immediate effect.
The letter signed
by the Acting Group Managing Director, Mr. Matthew Olajide Ikumoluyi, further
stated that the finance department has been advised to pay the affected member
of staff, three months salary in lieu of notice.
They were also
directed to submit all company’s property in their possession to the
general manager, human resources immediately.
Efforts by Daily
Independent to get official reaction of the conglomerate from the Senior
Manager Corporate Affairs, Oloye Lekan Alabi, proved abortive as he was said
not to be on seat when the reporter called.
A victim, who
sought anonymity, however said he was on his annual leave in Lagos when he was
called that he had an urgent message at the office of the Group Managing
Director, GMD. Our source said the sack letter was being distributed by Revered
Bayo Boyejo, the senior manager, training/development.
In recent times,
there had been various reports of major shakeup in the Odua group, which had
allegedly affected the office of the Chairman, board of directors, Chief Kola
Bajomo.
But the Senior
Manager Corporate Affairs, Oloye Lekan Alabi, has refuted the report.
However, some of
the affected managers have alleged political victimisation by the current board
of directors as most of the affected managers were said to have been employed
by the past administration of the Alliance for Democracy.
“Why is it
that it is only those employed between 1999 and 2003 were the ones affected?
Why should we be the sacrificial lamb for the rot in Odua investment? Examples
abound among the board of extravagant spending of company’s money.”
He said the purge
should not be limited to the managers in the spirit of justice and fairness
alleging that some board members incurred huge bills at Lagos Airport Hotel and
Premier Hotel, Ibadan.
