Sharp political mathematics to pension

Mathematics has assumed the omni-presence position in all courses of study, be it in Arts, Social Sciences, and Pure Sciences; and even in research findings, mathematics is there.

In recent years, sharp political mathematics of different systems have been evolved by politicians to have their way.  In campaign rallies, they have applied sharp political mathematics to excel.  In election, they have manipulated sharp political mathematics to beat electoral system to victory.  Among themselves, they even devise sharp political mathematics to assume principal political offices while in their service to the public; they apply sharp additional mathematics to cover up their inactions and selfish interests.

This time around I have a spiritual dream of a calculated sharp political mathematics to pension benefit for political office holders using one of the oil producing states of the federation as front-runner in this regard.  I saw vividly, sharp political mathematicians proposing a pension bill for 48 months political office holders at the expiration of their tenure in office in May 2007.  Under the proposed pension bill, the State Governor and his deputy’s bill shall be presented and discussed first in the House and on the successful passage of the bill, others shall follow simultaneously.

To fulfill their game plan, there shall be a stage-managed hot debate ‘for’ and ‘against’ the passage of the bill by members of the State House of Assembly.  After a neatly tailored delay tactics, majority of the members of the house shall favour the passage of the bill in all respects and the bill shall eventually be passed into law and nailed down in the State Statutory Book for public obedience.  This is my recent spiritual revelation.

If this happens, my questions are - What will be the fate of career office holders who spend years on end in office serving the people and eventually retire meritoriously to be paid pea-nuts as pension benefit?  How can the politicians defend their raid on public treasury in form of their pension benefits after a huge consolidated salary packages and various other fat allowances open to them for just 48 months made up of 4 divisional segments as follows -

(i) 1 year for handing over and taking over periods

(ii) 1 year for planning and reformation periods

(iii) 1 year of active service

(iv) 1 year for partisan political campaign for another term in office for would-be second term timers.

I just do not know how politicians can justify the payment of pension benefits to them for being given the opportunity to run the country with public fund for only 4 years or 8 years at most.  I know that the poor masses will react to the political draft players’ game plan.  The Nigerian labour force, I am sure, will be interested in the proposed sharp political mathematics to pension as what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
