Ahmadiyya publishes Braille Quran

By Sam Eyoboka and Zenat Abdussalam
Friday, August 27, 2004

LAGOS—THE Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has announced the publication of a Braille version of the Holy Quran translated by Maulana Sher Ali Sahib for the benefit of the partially impaired/blind persons.

The world leader of the Islamic Organisation, Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V. made this known in London while addressing Muslim faithfuls on the remarkable achievement of the organisation.

He said 24 new translations into local languages of the Braille Qur’an are ready and would be published soon, noting that teeming numbers of partially impaired/blind Muslims and other people are yearning to read the holy book and other Islamic publications, but they have been denied this opportunity.

According to him, this is the challenge the Ahmadiyya Muslim Organisation is ready to face presently as a new translation of the Holy Qur’an in Kannada language is being presented to the public, bringing the number of translations to 58.

Recently, the Nigerian Ahmadiyya Muslims in the United Kingdom presented a Braille machine to Uthman Muhammad Robiu, a year two Common Law and Shariah student of the University of Ilorin.

In another development, the youth wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat under the auspices of the Majlis Khuddam-ul Ahmadiyya is organising a three-day youth programme for Ahmadi Muslims children between the ages of seven and 15 years.

The programme tagged; ‘Eko Akete 2004’ has as its theme; “The Role and Impact of Children in the changing world’, billed for the Zumratul Islamiyya Grammar School, Igbogbo via Ikorodu, Lagos from today to Sunday August 29, 2004.
