The youths, in a statement issued in Warri by the Western zone of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) led by its Chairman, Mr. David Reje and Assistant Secretary, Mr.  Bebenimibo Paul, warned SSOPEC leaders to shun attempts by the Northern states to push them towards putting up a defence in a lawsuit they described as illegal and threat to the corporate existence of  Nigeria and the littoral states. “We want to advise those unpatriotic elements to withdraw the lawsuits immediately for their own good as the people of the Niger–Delta are ready to control their resources by any means necessary. This action of the governors may boomerang. If not withdrawn, then the youths of this region and the Ijaw youths are going to storm the court premises and things will fall apart and centre will not hold. “We, as a people of the region will no longer condone this unpatriotic and inhumane behaviour of the North.  The North has fed so much from the Niger–Delta. With the oil revenue accruing from the Niger–Delta, major northern cities have been built but the Niger–Delta remains as a nest, devastated and rejected.
