Privatization: Obasanjo, Ohanaeze Lament Igbo Attitude From Emmanuel Ugwu in Enugu President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed deep concern over the attitude of Ndigbo to the privatisation programme of the Federal Government having recorded the least participation among all the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. These concerns came to the fore yesterday at the three-day South East zonal consultative forum on privatization which kicked off in Enugu with Obasanjo saying that the low participation of Ndigbo in the privatization programme was at variance with the enterprising spirit of the race. Obasanjo in his speech read by his special assistant on Bureau for Public enterprises, Rev. Dr Sunday N. Onuoha said. "It is here I wish to express my deep concern with discomforting reports of apparent disinterest of Ndigbo in the privatisation programme. It is paradoxical and totally inexplicable that the enterprising spirit and the business acumen are, hallmarks of Ndigbo, which have not been brought to bear on the programme." Records at the conclusion of the first phase of the privatisation have shown that the zone recorded about eight percent participation in the programme, a very low score compared to other geopolitical zones. According to the President this record remained "inexplicable" as the zone "associated with entrepreneurship, inventiveness and commercial ingenuity" has no reason to be trailing behind other parts of the country in the privatisation exercise.
