Police Seal Off Kwara NLC Secretariat From Tunde Sanni in ilorin Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat in Ilorin Kwara State was yesterday sealed up by about 30 anti-riot policemen who acted on " order from above." The anti-riot policemen, THISDAY learnt, arrived the state secretariat situated on Lajorin road, as early as 7a.m in a pick-up van marked "Commander" and a Peugeot 504 car with registration number NPF 4531B. State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Emman Aiyeoribe, expressed dismay at the action, and warmed against turning the nation into a one -arty state. The NLC had planned a fasting and prayer session yesterday, and a procession, to the government house and other public places to register its grievance to the Labour Bill now before the National Assembly. The Union, according to Aiyeoribe, also planned to submit labour position on the Bill to the state governor, Speaker of the Assembly, as well as Emir of Ilorin. About 2,000 workers who had stormed the secretariat for the rally were prevented from assembling by detachment of the police who dispersed the workers. Aiyeoribe, who spoke to newsmen said "we are embarrassed by this action. We got here this morning with the intention of having a workers forum to organise ourselves and go out to deliver these letters". "When we got here, we met a detachment of security men who had already locked up our secretariat." "We are surprised and we later met with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Solomon Olusegun, who is acting for the commissioner of Police, and he told us he was obeying instructions from above. Aiyeoribe, however, boasted that the draconian step against the NLC would making Nigeria workers resolute and stronger.
