'My Appointment'll Pave Way for Nigerians' Rivers From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt First Nigerian Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Mr Basil Efoise Omiyi, has described his appointment as a way of opening the door for a lot of Nigerians to make their footprints in the Anglo-Dutch company. Omiyi, 58, joined the SPDC in 1970 as wellsite petroleum engineer and until his latest elevation, he was the company's production director. Acknowledging that SPDC has always strive to give equal opportunities to all to contribute at the highest labour level, he said his appointment was a demonstration of that, and the beginning of many good things. Omiyi spoke at a forum in his honour, which also doubles as send off to out -going Managing Director and the Deputy Managing Director of the company, Mr Christ Finalyson and Mr. Joshua Udofia respectively. "I believe Nigerians outside Shell are also happy that Shell did this. I am proud that Shell, the biggest oil company in Nigeria was the first to take the bold step ahead of our competitors and again, another way to implement the local content policy", he added. Omiyi, who is to assume his new position on September 1st, thanked those who made his appointment possible; pledging to maintain an excellent relationship with stakeholders for the benefit of all.
