D/Gov to Encourage Foreign Investors Benue Deputy Governor of Benue State, Prince Ogiri Ajene, yesterday said the state government will encourage foreign partners willing to invest in the state, to boost its economic fortunes. Ajene said this when a South African sugar firm paid him a courtesy call in government house. He expressed happiness that democratic rule has increased, South Africa and Nigeria's cooperation in several aspects of the economy of the two nations, saying the growing partnership has a lot of positive prospects for the two countries. He commended the initiative of the firm and pledged that the state governmment would provide the needed environment and impetus, to facilitate the mission of the firm in the proposed sugar farm and plant. He said as soon as officials of the state government come up with the framework for cooperation, the state government would give its needed blessings. Speaking earlier, the Nigerian representative of the firm, Dr. Steven Olorunfemi, said the firm will invest in sugar farms, as well as set up a sugar processing plant, adding that most of the imputs will be sourced locally. He said the sum of $120 million would be put into the project which will cover 30,000 hectrares of land, pointing out that at the moment, Nigeria imports 94 per cent of its sugar needs.
