'Ban Use of Inflammable Construction Materials' Rivers From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Rivers State, Chief Azu-buike Nmerukini has called on the state government to ban the use of inflammable materials in the construction of residential quarters in the state. Nmerukini made the call on the heels of the recent fire incident at the popular Nyemanze Water Front in the state capital where property worth several millions of naira were burnt to ashes. The chief also want the state to stop people from leaving at the water fronts areas within the state. He described such environments with residents at the water front as potential havens for criminals, observing that people living in such environment suffer health hazards occasioned by congestion and over crowding. He advised government to convert such portion of lands into more decent structures for a healthy leaving condition of the residents. Chief Nmerukini who was very shocked by the extent of damage done during a visit to the Nyemanze Water Front totally condemned the action of cultists in the state on unleashing mayhem on innocent citizens. He promised to set-up a committee to take stock of victims of the fire with a view to giving them assistance to cushion the immediate effect of the disaster.
