Globacom League: Enyimba Stop Nationale Premier League defending champions Enyimba virtually played the title into the hands of League leaders Dolphins FC by forcing second-placed Iwuanyanwu Nationale to a goalless draw in Owerri on Wednesday. It was the first time Nationale failed to pick maximum points at home this season and may now have to battle the Aba Millionaires for the runners-up spot. But the sparks still flew in the big Eastern Derby, though Enyimba's star-studded assemblage proved too strong for the hosts, particularly in the first-half. Playing without the influential Mbwas Mangut, Nationale lacked cohesion, allowing the visiting midfield quartet of Musa Aliyu, Onyekachi Okonkwo, Damien Udeh and Muri Ogunbiyi to run the show. It was no surprise, therefore that Enyimba created the only clear-cut chance in the 26th minute, when Okonkwo and Udeh combined to free Ndidi Anumunu who in turn set up Bob Osim, but the wing-back's header narrowly missed target. Nationale defenders Stanley Onuegbu and Victor Ezuruike worked extra hard to ensure the half ended scoreless, though Obinna Nwaneri was also outstanding at the other end. Nationale came out with more determination in the second period, and in the 51st minute Udeh was adjudged to have brought down Uche Onyeaka in the box for a penalty. But the ever-improving Vincent Enyeama pulled a class save to parry Onyeaka's effort and the near-capacity crowd even had to bear watching 'Atouba' fire the rebound wide with Enyeama stranded on the turf. Enyeama kept his side in the game with another brilliant save off Mike Ochei in the 71st minute and Enyimba held on admirably from that point. And perhaps, only the questionable offside calls from the match officials denied them more than the point they took back to Aba.
