The Edo State Government has ordered that
development on the land around the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), in
Aduwawa, along Benin-Auchi road be stopped forthwith.
The State Deputy-Governor, Chief Mike
Oghiadomhe who gave the order when he visited the broadcast station, explained
that embargo on development of the land subsisted pending government’s
pronouncement on ownership of the land that was in dispute.
He warned that Edo State Government would
not tolerate a situation where its land was trespassed upon.
Earlier, the onal General Manager, Benin
one of the NTA, Princess Grace Alomoge had told the deputy-governor that some
individuals have trespassed the land.
Alomoge pointed out that one of the
trespassers was in the habit of employing thugs to harass the innocent
broadcast house staff.
In another development, the State
Government has appealed to the Federal Government to come to the aid of the
state in order to stem the ravaging erosion problem near Queen Ede Secondary
School, Ogbeson Quarters, Benin City.
The state deputy governor, Chief
Oghiadomhe made the appeal yesterday when he undertook the inspection of
erosion prone areas of the state capital.
He however, stated that immediate
remedial measures was to be carried out by the state to stem further
devastation of the site as he explained that the state government would erect
structures round the erosion walls in realisation of the objective.
Oghiadomhe advised the inhabitants of the
area to restrain their children and avoid the erosion pit.
