Members of
the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), including Lagos State Governor
Bola Tinubu and elder statesman Anthony Enahoro, are no longer on the wanted
list of the police.
A top
police officer at the legal service department, Force Annex, Alagbon, Lagos
explained that the gazette purportedly issued by the regime of the late Sani
Abacha between 1996 and 1997 which declared wanted all NADECO members in
connection with the spate of bomb explosions across the country has been
rendered null and void by the new democratic dispensation.
Besides
Tinubu and Enahoro, former NADECO members include former Chief of Defence
Staff Alani Akinrinade, former Edo State Governo John Odigie-Oyegun, Lagos
State Governor Bola Tinubu, Dan Suleiman, Ralph Obioha and Ralph Uwechue.
Fearing
for their lives, many of them went on exile during the Abacha junta.
The stance
of the coalition against the regime was based on the self- succession bid by
the tyrant, to perpetuate himself in office, an action the NADECO stoutly opposed.
Said the
source: The present status of NADECO chieftains, by the Federal Governments
silence over the issue, means that the members of the coalition are now free
men and can now go about their businesses without any form of fear or
intimidation.
