Moore Towers residents petition police

Residents
of the Eric Moore Towers who are still contesting its sale to Dock Management
Limited (DML) at the cost of N40.11million have petitioned the police
alleging threat to their lives.
They
petitioned the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba,
Lagos alleging threat to their lives by one Mr. Moshood Salvador of DML, who
claimed to have won the bid to purchase the towers.
A
statement dated August 17 and signed by the solicitor to the residents, Mr.
Ray Onyegu, alleged that Salvador had consistently threatened that since the
residents have constituted themselves into a stumbling block to his desire to
acquire the towers, he would leave no stone unturned to put them out of
circulation.
Salvodor,
however, declined comments when Daily Independent contacted him,
saying only the Federal Government that sold the property to him could
clarify the matter.
A
spokesman for the residents, Mr. Daniel Makolo, at a press briefing last week
said the residents through a primary mortgage firm, Jubilee Savings and
Loans, were able to raise N300million that they offered for the purchase of
the estate but that their offer was turned down for a far lesser offer by the
firm of DML.
According
to him, the Federal Ministry of Housing was not sincere in its desire to
offer the estate to the highest bidder. He said the tenants should have been
given the first option of offer.
He said
the Housing Minister, Mrs. Mobolaji Osomo, during an interactive session with
members of the House of Representatives had given assurance that the persent
tenants would be given priority in the sale of the estate. Makolo decried a
situation where the residents were being subjected to psychological trauma
due to the unbridled and insatiable desire of some people to acquire the
property that belongs to the masses.
