Chief Matilda Iyabode Apampa has been appointed as the new
chairman of Odua Investment Company Limited. She replaces Chief Kola Bajomo,
who has since resigned from the organisation.
A statement by the Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs, Oloye
Lekan Alabi, said Mrs. Apampa, who was a former commissioner in Ogun State and
chairman, Ogun Osun River Basin Development Authority assumed duty last Friday.
By the appointment, Apampa became the first female chairman
of the Odua conglomerate after more than two decades of existence.
However, Daily Independent gathered that the appointment was
part of the management shake up embarked upon by the owner states of the
conglomerate.
The governors had allegedly at the last owner states meeting
held in Osun State berated the shoddy handling of the Oduatel, the newly
established communication company of the Odua group.
They were said to have ordered the immediate removal of the
former Chairman, Chief Kola Bajomo and the Group Managing Director, Sir Remi
Omotoso.
While Bajomo was confirmed to have resigned as chairman of
the board, an official statement from the organisation, however, denied the
removal of Omotoso, who was said to be on annual leave.
At present, the General Manager Operations of the Odua
Group, Mr. Jide Ikimoluyi, has been acting as the group managing director of
the conglomerate since last month.
Meanwhile, the inability of Odua Telecoms Limited to meet the
desired expectations of the people has continued to elecit criticisms from the
public.
Oduatel, currently a 100 per cent company owned by Odua
Investment won the bids for fixed wireless licences from the Nigerian
Communications Commission (NCC) for Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states.
The fixed wireless line was expected to take off in July
last year as stated by Omotoso at a press conference, but the launching was
dragged to February this year in Ibadan.
In June this year, the Export-Import Bank of the United
States of America, Ex-Im Bank approved N1.4 billion equipment loan for Oduatel.
