Obasanjo promises to intergrate, reward ISO Execut1ves
In
recognition of the patriotic role played by the Integrated Supporters for
Obasanjo (ISO) during the 1999 and 2003 general elections in mobilising
Nigerians for successful polls, President Olusegun Obasanjo has promised to
absolve the national leadership of the group into his administration.
The
President made this known last week at his Ota home in Ogun State when national
executives of the group paid him a courtesy call to present a proposal of their
proposed activities to him.
Obasanjo
commended the group for their unwavering support for his administration since
the inception of his regime in I999, and he implored them not to relent in
their mass mobilisation activities in sensitising Nigerians for a better polity
and support for his government.
The
President assured the group that its leadership will been rewarded with
political appointments but enjoined them to continue in their selfless and
voluntary crusade of public enlightenment on government policies and programmes
and in defending the nation's democracy.
Obasanjo,
who was responding to an earlier remark by the ISO National Publicity
Secretary, Chief Ejike Onah, said the Federal Government is aware of the
important role played by the group since the advent of his regime.
In
his speech, ISO National General Secretary, Mr Kingsley Obolo, contended that
his group will continue to support Obasanjo’s regime in its effort to
carry out reform programmes for the benefit of the masses.
Obolo,
who commended the Obasanjo administration for its achievements, stable
democracy, preserving the unity of the country, peace and its ongoing reform
programmes, implored Nigerians to exercise patience and forbearance with the
Federal Government, adding that the efficacy of the reform will not yield
immediate result but said on the long run, majority of Nigerians, even
generations yet unborn, will benefit tremendously from the programme.
The
ISO scribe urged Nigerians to strive to work hard and be more creative instead
of blaming societal malady on the government, stressing that his group backs
effort by the government to reform the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
