Hasty decision on Oyofo We write in respect of the purported removal of Senator Kassim Oyofo (representing PDP Edo North) as the Senate Chief Whip and his swift replacement with Udo Udoma (PDP Akwa Ibom). To say the least we of the Concerned Edo Citizens (CEC) find it strange that there exists in the upper legislative chamber a disturbing level of dissent that brooks no respect for age, experience and integrity. The haste with which the distinguished Senator Oyofo was removed smacks of a long planned programme merely waiting to be implemented. No reason was addressed for his removal, Oyofo wasn’t even offered the opportunity to defend himself. Two sacrosanct principles were thus sacrificed for the mean politics at work. CEC wishes to state that what has happened is a calculated design to deny Edo State its due in the senate. The position of chief whip is allocated to Edo State, not to Akwa Ibom as has been done. Senator Oyofo should be restored to his position. He ha performed creditably in the past 15 months of his rule as the Chief Whip.
