Bayelsa Creates Database on Raw Materials From John Iwori in Yenagoa In a bid to reduce its sole dependence on oil and gas, Bayelsa State government has finalized plans to set up a 12-man- committee to identify raw materials in the state. The committee, which is made up of professionals drawn from the Ministries of Agricul-ture Science And Technology, is charged with the responsibility of identifying raw materials in the state outside the oil and gas sectors. Disclosing this in a chat with THISDAY at the weekend, the Special Adviser to Governor Alamieyeseigha on legal matters, Barrister Gowon T. Deinduomo said the state government took the decision in order to enhance the state investment potentials and opportunities. Deinduomo who was the immediate past Legal Adviser to the ruling People Democracy Party (PDP) in the state explained that the 12-man- committee would work hand-in-hand with the Raw Materials Research And Development Commission to ensure the realization of its objectives. According to him, the identification of raw materials outside the oil and gas sectors would not only enhance the state revenue profile but would also attract local and foreign investors to the state. The Special Adviser contended that what he called "undue attention on oil and gas revenues" over the years, has denied the country numerous benefits derivable from other raw materials. Explaining the basis for setting up the committee, he said: "the essence of this 12-man-committee on raw materials is to have a data base that would be readily made available to prospective local and foreign investors.
