SME Fund: Rivers Raises Sensitisation Body From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt To mobilise and co-ordinate members towards full utilisation of the N22 billion made available by banks for the development of Small and Medium Enterpri-ses (SME) in the country, the Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) is to be inaugurated September 7. The state chairman of NASME, Mr. Bayo Adeeyo, said in Port Harcourt at the weekend that the association was established to co-ordinate and foster the promotion of micro, small and medium enterprises in the country. According to him, over 80 per cent employment in the world is by small and medium enterprises and the higher per cent of GDP of most countries are realised through SMEs. Adeeyo observed that the mega companies are not really assisting SME development in the country, hence the focus and emphasis worldwide now is shifted to the development of the small and medium enterprises. The Rivers State chairman of NASME explained that the N22 billion offered by the bank was a step in this direction and federal government efforts at developing SME sector as an engine of growth and development. He tasked the Small and Medium Enterprises in the Niger Delta to rise up to the challenge and be actively involved in the exercise so that youths of the region would have something meaningful to engage themselves.
