N25bn Capital Base Not Against North -Yarima From Yakubu Musa in Kano Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Sani, has dismissed insinuation that the N25 billion capital base imposed on the banks by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was designed to cripple banks from the northern part of the country. Sani, who spoke in an interaction with journalists in the state, pointed out that banks from the north should see the apex bank policy as a challenge that would motivate them to grow. "I don't see it as an agenda to stop the northern banks. The chairman of the largest bank in the county, First Bank, is Omar Muttalab and he is a northerner. So business is not a regional affair, the policy is a big challenge to both north and south," he stated. On allegation that the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) governors have dumped the party's presidential candidate, General Muhammed Buhari (rtd), Sani noted that "we are still behind the retired general." He, however, noted that the governors are have not been making public comment on the mtter because it is before court of law. "Buhaari is still our presidential candidate, he is also a bona fide member of the party, but people want us to be making comments on his case before it is determined by the court," he explained.
