NGO Flays Rivers, Police over Ataba Killings From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt A non-governmental organisation (NGO), The Africa Institute for Negotiation and Crisis Management, has risen in condemnation of the recent invasion raping and brutal killing of women, children and youths of Ataba community in Andoni Local Government area of Rivers State by attackers of the community. "The sight of blood, corpses and massive destruction of houses in the Ataba invasion is yet another dark chapter in the history of chieftaincy crisis in the state," the NGO President, Mr. Chizor Wisdom, lamented in Port Harcourt. "It is sad, embarrassing and dehumanising. The slaughtering of over 30 indigenes and their collaborators has revealed the primitivism and meaninglessness of life in the state," he noted. The body expressed concern that police in the state had done nothing to bring the perpetrators and their sponsors to book in similar crises which erupted in the community in the past, adding that "this circle of violence makes life cheap and local communities unsafe for innocent citizens."
