The former chairman of Lagos State branch of Nigerian Optometric, Association (NOA) Dr. Roland Edosa made the remarks while briefing newsmen on the programmes of a newly established Non-Governmental Organisation, Sightfirst International. Edosa who spoke to journalists in Ikeja on Thursday disclosed that the NGO will lay emphasis on rural eyecare projects throughout the country, adding that government hospitals are yet to have the required number of Optometrists, who are primary eyecare providers in their services. He however pointed out that for the Optometric profession to grow, members must show interest in politics so that they can be part of the law making process. "Optometrists should exploit the new political dispensation by vying for elective post, moreso, they should sponsor bills that will protect the interest of the profession", he said.
