Zamfara Rated Worst State in Exam Malpractices From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja Zamfara State has been rated the worse state involved in examination malpractices in 2003 by a survey conducted by the Exam Malpractice Index (EMI), with a total of 47.89 the state catapulted from the least status in 2002 to the first position in 2003. Executive Chairman, Exam Ethics Project (EEP), Mr. Ike Onyechere, while presenting the 2003 Exam Malpratice Rating of States and Geo-political Zones to the Minister of Education, Professor Fabian Osuji, at the weekend, said EMI reflected the measure of the number of candidates involved in malpractices out of every 100 that sat for the exam. Osuji in his remarks commended EEP for collaborating with the ministry in the campaign against exam malpractices. He described the eradication of exam malpractices as high danger because it has become an enterprise that desperate parents, security agents, violent students and even schools are involved. "We would continue to give you the support that you need to limit this scourge," he said. Onyechere disclosed that National Exam Malpractice Index increased from 10.5 in 2002 to 12.1 in 2003. Following Zamfara in the survey was Abia State with 42.88 as compared to last year when it took the eighth position. Rivers State came third with 40.14 as compared to its fifth position in the previous year while Kogi, which ranked first among the worse states in 2002 this time around came fourth with 27.91.
