Ogun Seeks FG's Assistance on Ecological Problem

Ogun State government has sought assistance of Federal Government to tackle the 50 spots identified as critical ecological problems areas across the three Senatorial districts of the state.
The state Commissioners for Housing, Mr. Wale Egunleti and Information and Strategy, Mr. Niran Malaolu, stated this during a joint press briefing after the last state Executive Council meeting.
Disclosing that machinery has been set in motion towards tackling these problems, the commissioners added that approval had been given to the state Ministry of Environment to access the ecological funds to tackle one spot in each of the three Senatorial
districts.
These areas include Owu African Church flood and erosion project in Ogun Central Senatorial district, Koto Olorunwa gully erosion project, Ilisan in Ogun East Senatorial district and Igbala flood erosion project, Ota in Ogun West Senatorial district.
According to them, contract approval was given to the environment ministry to address the gully erosion project at Obalende Ijebu - Ode, through direct labour.
The state executive had also approved the rehabilitation of 12 roads under the phase 111 of the OGROMA project including Iju/Ajuwon road, Akute, Ode-Remo/Akaka road and Ilaro/Idogo road.
Others areas are Ijebu-Ode -Imodi/Mosan road, Iberekodo / Oke Ona Grammar School road and Ijagun/ Imaweje road in Ijebu-Ode.
While the rest include Tube/Ijofin road, Oru/Awa/Ilaporu road, Agosasu township road in Ipokia, Imosu/Isamuro - Ayegbami road in Ijebu-North, Awolowo Avenue Olotu Micheal Oyedele Avenue in Sagamu and Oni para in Remo North Local Government area.
In another development, the commissioners announced that the state executive had suspended operations of Gateway Transit to allow for private sector participation in its management.
The commissioners assured that the reorganisation of the company as viewed by the government would not lead to the retrenchment of any of its staff.
"With the decision on Gateway, no single staff would be retrenched as they would be engaged in government service," they claimed.
