Pedro Seeks Special Funding for Police By Shaka Momodu Lagos State Deputy Governor, Femi Pedro, has restated the need for special and adequate funding of operations of men and officers of the Lagos State Police command. The special funding, according to him, has become imperative because of the complexities and peculiar nature of Lagos. Pedroa spoke while hosting members of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs. Pedro said a Policeman who is ill equipped and underpaid will succumb to the fire power of men of the underworld who often possessed modern weapons. He called for a decentralization of the Police through the development of more powers to states and local governmen authorities who are best suited to tackle the intricacies of crime prevention locally. The Deputy Governor said very little success could be attained by the Federal Government through the putting in place of a Police Trust Fund, adding that the problem of the police goes beyond drawing from a Trust Fund. Pedro commended the efiorts of the Lagos Police Command in reducing crime rate substantially despite its various inadequacies. The determination of the officers of the Lagos Police Command, according to the deputy governor, informed the decisions of the State Government to assist the comrnand financially and morally.
