Atiku Unveils Mike Adenuga Towers Today
Vice President Atiku Abubakar will today unveil Mike Adenuga Towers, the multi-billion naira head office building of the Mike Adenuga Group which will also house Nigeria�s Second National Operator, Globacom Limited.
The 13 -floor edifice located at plot 1, Mike Adenuga Close, Victoria Island, Lagos, was designed by Harcourt Aduke, a Port Harcourt- indigenous building and civil engineering works consultant.
The breathtaking masterpiece comes complete with a helicopter landing pad and a unique gold colour glass canopy supported by galvanized cast iron.
The bull, the personal totem of Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr, is etched on the gold glass and is most visible at night when the installed revolving multi-colour light beams on the building.
The actual construction of the building was initiated 13 years ago by Adenuga, who nursed the desire of housing the burgeoning MA Group under one roof. Some of the companies in the group expected to move their operational headquarters to Corporate Point are Glo Mobile, Glo Fixed, Glo Gateway and Glo Online as well as Equitorial Trust Bank (ETB), Devcom Bank, Conoil Plc, Conoil Producing, WorldSpan and Southern Airlines.
The construction of the building lasted for 13 years because of Adenuga�s insistence on achieving excellence at every stage of the job. �Utmost care was taken to ensure that the facilities installed in the building were of the latest technology and that the house emerged the best architectural piece on Lagos Island,� added a source in the Mike Adenuga Group.
The commissioning of the edifice, is part of the activities commemorating the first anniversary of Glo Mobile, the GSM arm of Globacom. The network commenced operation on August 29, last year.
Other activities lined up for the anniversary include the launch of Globacom's 2.5G high speed data network technically called GPRS. Also billed for introduction into the market is MMS, Mobile Internet, an advanced wireless internet access service that allows the subscriber to connect to the internet using a laptop and a GPRS-enabled telephone handset.
Glo Mobile will also, during the anniversary, celebration mark its emergence as the fastest growing GSM network in Africa. The company achieved a record one million subscriber base and service coverage of 64 towns in 9 months of operation.
