Kwara Tasks Visitation Panel

The Visitation Panel empanelled by the Federal Government to look into its institutions of higher learning across the country have swung into action with a vow to look into the clog in the wheel of education progress in the country.
In Ilorin, the Visitation Panel headed by Mrs. Theresa Chukwuma, has been tasked by the Kwara State Government to include cultism and exam malpractices that have permeated the fibre of higher institutions in their investigations.
The acting governor of the state, Chief Joel Afolabi Ogundeji told the panel that unless a quick solution is found to the nagging problems of cultism and exam malpractices, the prospect of education in future may be dimmed.
Ogundeji holding forte for Dr. Bukola Saraki who is on annual vacation, stressed the need for the problems to be tackled decisively. He told the panel members of the effort of the Saraki administration in combating the menace.
The acting governor mentioned the enectment of a law in the recommending severe punishment for cultists and their patrons.
Ogundeji called on the Federal Government to make the war against cultism and exam malpractices beyond mere rhetorics and mouth slogan.
A total war against the menace of cultism and exam malpractices by all stakeholders in the education sector, the acting governor noted, would restore the confidence of critical observers to the sector.
He commended the management of the institution for its harmonious relationship with its local environment.
Ogundeji assured of the continued assistance of the state government in improving the fortunes of the institution.
Earlier, the leader of the team had intimated the acting governor that their mission was to look into all those areas that may inhibit the progress of tertiary institutions in the country.
According to her, their briefs included leadership quality, financial management, application of funds, law of the school, academic programmes, policies and practices of the school.
Other briefs of the panel, Chukwuma narrated, included, management structure and performance as well as the relationship between the institution and other various statutory bodies of the institution.
