Presbyterians Want Due Process in States , LGs From Emmanuel Ugwu in Enugu Impressed with the success so far recorded in the application of due process in the conduct of government at the federal level, the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria has called on state and local governments to adopt the new mechanisms in their operations. The call was made at the weekend in a 19-point communique issued by the church at the end of the 16th General Assembly meeting concluded at Enugu. In the communique read by the newly-elected Moderator of the church, Rt. Rev Ubon Bassey Usung, the church explained that its advocacy for the adoption of due process was hinged on the fact that it "has led to saving billions of naira at the federal level, adding that "servicom", which is designed to monitor and enhance service delivery to the people was ewqually desirable at all levels of governance. But the church pointed out that while it was desirable for the state and local governments to adopt due process, the implementation of the process "must be seen to be above board." The General Assembly meeting with theme: "Jesus Christ Our righteousness" obnserved taht the proliferawtion of churches in Nigeria "has not brought about the reign of righteousness in the land" hence it urged "all Nigerians to return to God their creator in upright living."
