5-Member Visitation Panel for Fed Polys

Federal Government has consituted a panel with full powers and authority to carry out a visitation to 61 Federal Polytechnics including Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
The panel Acting Chairman and Secretary to YABATECH are Alhaji Aminu Yahaya and Ms Erta Tawada. Other members include Mr Madu Paschal , Dr. Eleoke Chukwunigwe and Mr Karata Hele.
The panel which had been calling for memoranda in writing or verbal form from members of the public within the Polytechnic community has thirty-days to submit its reports to the federal government.
The memoranda, to be submitted in eight (8) copies type-written and addressed to the secretary, according to Erta Tawada should reach the panel on or before August 30 and put in care of the Rector of the college.
The terms of reference for the panel, according to the Secretary during a press briefing in Lagos are to determine the relationship between the institution and the various statutory bodies it interacts with according to its law and purpose of supervision , planning , finance , discipline and guidance.
Look into the leadership quality of the institution in terms of the roles of Governing Council , the Head of the institution and other Principal Officers.
Peruse the financial management of the institution over the recommended period and determine whether it was in compliance with appropriate regulation .
The panel, she also said would investigate the application of funds, particularly the special grant and loans meant for specific project and their relevance for further funding.
Examine the "LAW"establishing the institution and see in what way the law has been observed in all its ramifications by the competent authorities and also suggest any necessary modification to the law in order to enable the institution to achieve its objectives.
Study the general atmosphere of the institution over the period in question, that is comment on the general conduct and comportment of all the personnel of the institution, especially the student, staff and managers, and advice as to whether the correct training is being given and how necessary corrections may be made.
Examine all the academics programmes, policies and practice as well as the total academics and physical development, performance and direction of the institution and advise as to whether the desire target have been met and how modification may be made to achieve maximum academics productivity, excellence and service to the nation.
Also, the panel has been mandated to study in detail, the management structure and performance of the institution including fiscal and administrative personnel and welfare policies as well as advice on ways to cut on cost, reduce waste and continue to develop, if necessary by adaptation , rather than expansion in the face of the attenuated resources .
And lastly advise on any and all other aspects of the institution that they consider should be of interest to both the visitor and the public, and to the attainment of the objectives for which the institution was set up.
