US NGOs Donate 400 Computers, 600 Books Bayelsa From John Iwori in Yenagoa Education sector in Bayelsa State has received a boost with the donation of 400 Pentium 3 model computer sets with Internet facilities, printers and scanners, as well as 6000 books for its primary, post primary and tertiary institutions. The items which were donated by some non-governmental organizations (NGO's) based in the United States of America (USA) were received by Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. At a brief hand-over ceremony at the warehouse of the Ministry of Agriculture and National Resources, Yenagoa, Governor Dieprieye Alamie-yeseigha directed that the books be moved to the Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, within one week. The governor also directed that the cataloguing of the books should start immediately the university authorities received them. He said the computers would be distributed to government ministries and schools. According to him, it is one of the ways of ensuring computer literacy in the state. Alamieyeseigha stressed that the donation was one of the benefits of the state government officials overseas trips and collaborative efforts, even as he added that more of these donations would come soon. Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Solomon Apreala, had earlier briefed the governor on the contents of the donated items. He disclosed that arrangements had reached advanced stage for the donations of health equipment to the state.
