Social reforms
introduced by the Akwa Ibom State Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation
Commission (EARCOM) has received the backing of the Annang Forum, a
socio-political organisation in the state, and has urged the people to embrace
the reforms.
Speaking during a
visit of the commission’s members led by the Chairman, Mr. Eseme Eyibo,
the group’s National President, Chief Fidelis Etim, lamented the decay in
the social system, which, according to him, was not in line with the vision and
aspiration of the Governor Victor Attah-led administration in the state.
The Forum’s
leader averred that the much-talked about peace and unity in the state may be a
mirage if its social ills were not corrected.
Chief Etim, who is
also Chairman of the State Primary Education Board (SPEB), solicited the
co-operation of corporate bodies and institutions so that the government could
deliver democracy dividends to the people, expressing regrets that most of the
institutions in the state do not provide the needed support to the government.
He charged EARCOM to remain focused in its sensitisation
exercise, and urged the agency to collaborate with responsible groups in the
state to achieve its set objective.
