Akinfenwa faction

The Akinfenwa faction
of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) has warned against plans to hold a fresh
convention to elect leaders for the party, as being canvassed by the
Akande/Tinubu group.
Handing down the
warning in a communiqué at the end of its caucus meeting in Abuja, the
faction insisted that holding another convention would further polarise the
party.
The communiqué
was signed by its National Chairman Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa and Secretary Rafiu
Salawu. It disagreed with the
ongoing compilation of a list of convention delegates by the Akande group for
the convention, scheduled for September 23, even when the conduct of the local
government congresses is yet to be carried out.
Against this backdrop,
the faction advised Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu to stop his support for
and funding of the rival group, to avoid deepening the crisis.
The faction condemned
the “disinformation campaign in the media by some members of the
Akande/Tinubu group,” saying it is designed to lead and misinform party
members.
