For poor academic
performance, the authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta,
Ogun State has announced the expulsion of 297 students of the institution.
The Rector, Mr. Waheed Kadiri, said the
board’s action was in line with his administration’s determination
not only to maintain the existing standard, but also improve upon it.
Citing the Polytechnic Standing Rules
and Regulations 2003 Section 9.10(i) 21.01 and 21.02, Kadiri said the affected
students’ grade points accumulation (GPA) was less than 1.50 at the end
of a session. A breakdown of the
affected students shows that the Centre for Part-time and Pre-ND Programme
topped the list with 154, while the school of Business and Management Studies
and the School of Engineering have 77 and 15 respectively among other affected
schools.
Kadiri, who promised that management
would continue to expel students with poor academic records added that parents
have a great role to play in the future of their children and wards.
The rector, who
stressed that students who attempted to drag the good name of the institution
into the mud would not be sparred, also hinted that the polytechnic had devised
a system through which students with fake documentations would be detected
within the first six months of their admission into the institution.
