Alamieyeseigha reshuffles cabinet
From Willie Etim,
Yenagoa
GOVERNOR Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State has dropped three members of his cabinet in a reshuffle.
The three new commissioners are Mr. Oronto Douglas, an environment activist and a major critic of the Alamieyeseigha administration, for the Ministry of Information, Culture, Tourism and Strategies; Prof. Palmer Jonnie, a professor of Organisational Behaviour, Ministry of Education and Capt. Matthew Karimo, Ministry of Works.
The three new commissioners replaced Mr. Benson Agadaga, Dr. O.O. Osusu and Professor Telimoye Oguara.
At the swearing-in ceremony, the governor charged the new commissioners to be at the forefront of the crusade for rapid, social and industrial development, particularly of the much-neglected rural areas.
Alamieyeseigha stated that it was their collective duty to erase the memory of bad years by putting permanent smiles on the faces of citizens of Bayelsa.
He enjoined them to release their creative energies and articulate sound ideas that would give impetus to governance and bring about a progressive change in the fortunes of the state.
The governor reminded them of his administration's determination to complete all on-going projects in good time.
Alamieyeseigha pointed out that his administration had made significant strides in the past five years. The experience, he stressed, had opened their eyes to a lot of things hitherto taken for granted.
"A lot still needs to be done if our dreams of making Bayelsa a haven of development would be realised in our time", he noted.
He warned the commissioners to steer clear of actions that could be tagged "discriminatory" and allow the love of the state to manifest in all their actions.
